We had the opportunity to test the EV9 for a few hours on a local freeway and found it to be easy to drive and comfortable for long distances. The acceleration is quite fast and the car has adjustable regenerative braking to enable "one pedal driving" by simply taking off the accelerator.
The EV9 provides a large range and can be charged in three hours or less at home, or using any commercial charger. The driver can select from two operating modes - eco mode and sport mode. The eco mode is a preference for the torque and cruise control while the sport mode maximizes speed and handling. Both are fun to drive and provide an experience unlike any other for those who have never been in an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicles available, including a multi-purpose all-green power electric mobility scooter minibus called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used for executive shuttles, microtransit or transit buses, vanpools, or paratransit vehicles.
GreenPower is already producing around 10 EV Star buses per month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is attempting to replace their fleet of old diesel vehicles with 100 power electric scooter vehicles. With the Biden Administration aiming to electrify school buses nationwide, GreenPower plans on ramping production to meet the demand. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS certified. They are Buy America compliant, and ADA compliant. This will make them eligible for federal transit grants.
